Design your own made to measure dress - what's involved?

The first steps in the creation of your wedding wear are the sketches - giving form to your ideas for yourself and/or your bridesmaids.
Sketches can be done from elements in photos, magazines, paintings or your own drawings and ideas. So you can combine a neckline from one dress, a sleeve from another, a skirt from another and so on. Embroidery, beading, Swarovski crystals, fabric roses, bows etc are all available. I won't do straight copies of other designers' work.

Once you have decided on your style, you can then choose from a huge range of fabrics and colours (over one thousand samples for this year!) including the beautiful silks shown above. I will, of course, give you guidance on which fabrics are suitable for your design and will give the desired effect.

I then draft a paper pattern and from that make up a toile (a mock-up of the garment, usually in a plain cotton fabric and without most of the details of the finished item). The toile is then fitted to you. Adjustments can be made to neck depth, sleeve length, fit etc. and any alterations needed are applied to the final pattern. To ensure a perfect fit, it is important to wear the same foundation garments as you are going to wear 'on the day' for all your fittings.

I then construct your garment and, when it is almost finished, fit it to you. Again, you should wear the correct foundation garments and, for this fitting, shoes of the same height as you are going to wear 'on the day'.

For my local bridal customers, I offer a dressing service on the wedding day (in exchange for a photo of you wearing the finished dress). Everyone who has taken up this offer agrees that it really is a great help to have someone cool & calm to help dress the wedding party.
